Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. She is the creator and director-general of Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit website which explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Social and Political Thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. At a young age she was intrigued with gender issues and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. The ambitious young woman was slammed on the internet for her website series on gender in videogames. It was not enough to deter her. It actually increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women in pop cultural stories.
